I was only 3 when the war broke out and 9 when it ended, so I can not remember very much. Although I can remember the soldiers boots as they wore very tall boots, so I seemed to be always looking at them.
As far as I can remember we lived very well, you wouldn't have known a war was on from my perspective. We had a nice house and a garden with chickens and rabbits. My Dad could never kill them though, he used to have to take them to the butchers. He used to do all the shopping as well.
My dad worked for the electricity board and we had a bell outside the front door. If a bomb was dropped they had to go and make sure the power was safeguarded. Mum didn't work.
At the end of the war we had a street party and I got dressed up as a Gypsy. We had great fun.
