At the beginning of the war my mum got married to Bill Rogers. He was called up to fight in the war and was in the Middle East. She received a telegraph to say that he had been killed. She showed the telegraph to her brother who thought that there was something wrong, so they went to the war office. It turned out that her husband had climbed onto the back of a flat backed lorry, an American plane flew down too low and cut him in half. Despite going to the American Embassy she got no compensation
