During the ww2 I lived in Bois Guillaume near Rouen Normandie-France.
The forest a kilometre away from the house sheltered the launching ramp of the V1 who were sent to destroy London.. They were programmed to explode 30 minutes after launching.
From the first floor of our house my brother, myself and my younger sister watched.
Sometimes there was a mis-fire and the consequences would be for us.
We could recognise the noise if the V1 would not take off and land on a house or in a field, who was to know?
We had 30 minutes to leave before the explosion. The German soldiers who were doing the launching were so afraid they had a little swimming pool into which they jumped!
The forest was closed.
My 15 year old brother once went with his group of scout friends. The Germans asked them to stop. They did not hear and walked further鈥︹︹. One friend was killed by German gun-fire.
I also witnessed the English Bombing by very low-flying aeroplanes of the one bridge in Rouen which was the main road towards the north. We were happy they stopped the Germans.
A thank you from a little French girl - now aged 73 years -
The propaganda German Occupation radio saying - 鈥淟鈥橝ngleterre, comme Carthage doit etre de`truite.鈥 (England, like Carthage must be destroyed).
My grandfather would listen to the 大象传媒. 鈥業ci Londres, les francais parlent aux francais鈥.
