I remember when I was about 4 or 5 years old and I went to St Andrew鈥檚 School in Burwell with my older sister. One day my older brother came to collect us from school on his bike and we took the back route home. As I turned round, I remember seeing a parachutist jump out of an enemy plane. My sister screamed and my brother pedalled home for all he was worth.
I also remember the doodlebug which landed just outside the village. The whole family were frightened when we heard the engine cut out.
I can remember going into the dugout shelter in the garden and can still recall its familiar damp, earthy smell.
