I was 25 when this happened. When we were coming back at night I was attacked by a ME11O night fighter which caused some damage to our aircraft, including a fire. We managed to put out the fire. When landing we found the left hand main wheel had been damaged. The aircraft went out of control. Luckily none of the crew got injured.
I got 2 medals and this is what they were for: Victory Medal and a France and Germany Star. Germany was the place that got bombed the most. I got married in the war on February 1940. I did not really use rationing in the war. My street got bombed 4 or 5 times and 600 British planes went over at night.
