We lived between New Brighton and Birkenhead. I was 2 and a half years old when war broke out. We lived in my Grandparents house, 5 Naples Road Seacombe, Wallassey. An uncle and his son also lived there.
My father was sent to Synnerton - I can't remember him. It was hard for my mother. We were evacuated to Burton -on-Dee to Mrs Northam(owner of Fyfes Bananas) she mixed a jelly for me. In the dining room was a huge table. Mother wanted to go back home at every chance.
We also went to paint, Near oswestry - to a private house but we were not made welcome so we didn't stay long. We went to a farm in the same area where we fed calves from a bucket. Many years later I did meet someone from the area who knew the farm.
We eventually moved to Stoke.
I remember when we lived at Wallasey we were in bed when we saw what we thought was a bomb but it was a barrage balloon.
I remember my aunts house was damaged in a bomb raid - the front of the house was sheared off.
I remember at the end of the war St Josephs school boys coming down the road shouting and cheering that the war was over.
