When my Great Grandmother married the love of her life when, I believe, he was in the Coldstream Guards.
He served in Palestine, France, Norway, India, Persia, Iraq, Sicily, Italy, Germany, Khartoum, Egypt and Malaya. And as far as I can gather she went everywhere with him.
Before after and during the war she managed to raise six children. Not only with the stress of constantly moving around but with the anxiety that occurs with having the uncertain dread that comes with an "active" RSM (Warrant Officer First Class) for a husband.
Pointless though this story seems, to me as well as others, I thought she needed some recognition of how she contributed to the war effort by her constant support and love of her husband. However I believe that no matter whether you happen to be a feminist or a house wife what she did was amazing and I think that she as well as all the other Brides of soliders need constant recogition because when you get asked by people about the hero's of the war everyone always goes for the obvious ones, the soldiers, saliors, spys, airmen and the active women, not the civilians and the wifes and husbands of those who fought in the war.
