I worked at the Telephone Exchange in Ipswich. We used to get invited to all the parties at the air bases. I remember going over to Orfordness once and I lost one of my shoes overboard, so I just went without it! We didn鈥檛 worry about things then. We didn鈥檛 see the fear and danger. When the alarms used to go at night, there were two switchboards that had to be monitored, the rest of us used to go down to the shelter in the basement of the Telephone Exchange.
