I was born at the beginning of 1939. My earliest memories as a child was the droning of low flying German aircraft on their way to bomb Manchester. My brother and i were taken by our parents from our warm cosy beds to the safety of the air raid shelter, shared with next door neighbours or under the stairs.The air raid skelter had bunk beds in it for us to continue our sleep, whist the adults would talk or play cards until the all clear was sounded.
