Registered at Labour Exchange when 20yrs old for availability for armed forces.
Joined same day as Cath Gerrett, now Armstrong.
Basic training was carried out in Innsworth, Glouchester, England.
Daily.
Up at 7am. Breakfast, then duties, whichever was your turn to do. Washing dishes, cleaning toilets, huts etc.
Drill exercises carried out.
Could have been excluded from marching on Medical grounds but asked not to be.
Lasted 8 weeks.
Billeted in camp.
Only allowed to go out in uniform.
If caught out of uniform you were put on a charge.
Then to Barow-in-furnace, waiting for transfer to Blackpool for Wireless Traing Course.
Blackpool 1943 for 6 months on the course.
Visited Blackpol Tower Ballroom and Winter Gardens.
Loved dancing to the music of the time.
Billeted in civilian houses.
Physical Training Exercises carried out on the beach.
Marched to Darby Baths for Weekly shower.
Then Compton Bassett for 2 months to finalise training.
AC (2nd class) (Aircraft Woman 2nd class)
Assigned to Inverness testing wireless equipment on the planes before piolts left on missions.
Billited in Barracks.
Then back to England, only there 3 weeks and transferred to Peterhead.
Radio station was on a farm.
Testing the radio equipment.
Cycled from Barracks daily.
Working on VE day on night duty while everyone else was celebrating.
Did not get home much as there was very little leave.
My Mother used to keep the ration coupouns so I could have butter instead of margarine, when I was on leave.
Back in Gloucester worked in records.
There met up with Cath again.
