During the war years I also remember dressing up as Carmen Miranda and sang songs about the F眉hrer!

I also remember we had a fancy dress and my mother wasn't very rich and she didn't know what to dress me in so in the end we went out in the garden and she cut the tops of some rhubarb leaves and she dressed me in rhubarb leaves and she put a sign on me saying "no coupons"! I was only about seven. I also walked around with a stick of rhubarb without the leaf on and by the time I got round to the chapel the stitching on the rhubarb leaf outfit came undone and the whole thing fell off!

So in the end she got me dressed up in a cardboard box, which wasn't really quite the same as you can imagine! Our mum was inventive if nothing else.
