I was about 10 years old at the time, living in Poole, where I was born. My mother and I had a steel cage installed in out front room by the council; it was called a Morrison shelter. There was a bombing raid, we were in the shelter and in the morning after the "All Clear" siren, we immerged to be told there had been a direct hit in the High Street, and a number of people had been killed and several bodies were soon on the street. Later we found this to be untrue - the hit was on Burtons the gent鈥檚 outfitters and the bodies were dummies blown out of the shop display by the force of the explosion.
