Harry was 4 when war was declared by britain. At such a young age, Harry couldonly remember a few things from the war but the things he remembers the most are the times when he went to the cinema with his mother and before the film began, watched clips from what was happening at the war. He remembers everyone in the cinema cheering when these clips came on the screen and he remembers his mum smiling and saying,"that's where daddy is but don't worry, he will be back soon." The next thing he remembered most clearly was the times he had to run from the house into the back garden where the shelter had been built. He remembers being so frightened about them being bombed in the shelter that sometimes he cried himself to sleep. in the days of the war he rememebers being quite cheery and he thinks this is due to him not understanding about the war but overall he feels that the war may have been a more difficult time for other families becuase his family was never really affected properly by the war not like other families. He remembers that their next door neighbour came round one day and told his mother that she had recieved information telling her her husband was wounded. Harry remebers that the next door neighbour didn't really believe that he was injured so carried on as if noting had happened. By the end of the war when all the soldiers came back, her husband never returned. That is his saddest memory.
