I was born on the 23rd June 1943. In June 1944 my father was on leave and my Christening was arranged for the beginning of June on the HMS Lennox, a minesweeper, due to the fact that my parents’ surname was Lennox. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserves. The ship was decked out with white flags and flowers and a Christening cake. Unfortunately, due to the D-Day landing arrangements, HMS Lennox sailed away and there was no Christening.
At the time of the D-Day landing anniversary I heard someone being interviewed on the radio mentioning his surprise at seeing a ship covered with flowers and hearing that it was someone’s Christening. Does anyone know anything about this or can confirm the story?
