I was a nurse at North Wales, London and Surrey.
We dealt with more the medical side of things like operations and flu epidemics rather than war causalities.
I joined because I wanted to.
I remember the sirens and blackouts.
Our shelter was attached to the hospital. If you were on duty you had to stay on the ward.
Our meals were provided since I was a nurse.
We didn't see much food. A few ounces of butter a week and dried egg which made a nice omelet.
I didn't like the blackouts because I was scared of the dark.
They were horrible times but we had fun.
If there was a dance it would finish at 10pm and then you had to walk home — there were no buses after 9pm.
