My dad(Vic Elwell) was called up just after Dunkirk and he joined the Royal Warwickshire regiment at Warwick for his Square bashing. On finishing this he was posted to the 2/7th Batalion of the Warwicks at Ebrington Barracks in Londonderry. Whilst in N Ireland my dad did border patrols to stop German POWS escaping. On return from Londonderry Dad went to St Albans where he met my mum.In 1943 Dad was transferred to the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was posted to the 2nd Battalion in Burma. In April 45 he was wounded and was sent to a Military Hospital in Secunderabad in Southern India. Dad arrived back in the UK in March 46, but his troopship wasnt allowed to dock immediatley due to there being a case of smallpox on board. Eventually he ended up at Sedgfield in County Durham before being demobbed in May 46. Dad wet back to being a carpenter before deciding he'd had enough of that a he became a postman, he died in September 94.
