I tried to join the RAF as a pilot when I was 18 I then went to padgate for an interview, the nly questions I was asked at this time was the background of my fathers Employment. I was not accepted on this occation so I remustered as a wierless opperator.
during the war there became agreater need for pilots and reapplied, was interveiwed and accepted.
After my initial training I was sent to the USA for Flying training nuder the US Army aircore.
My journey was by troop ship via Canada, this was at the time the Bismark was in the Atlantic, our initial escort was diverted to engage with the Bismark and we had to proceed on our own
