I was evacuated to the Isle of Man as a very young child. My father was in the Navy and was also stationed there, in charge of the Prisoners of War. I felt very lucky to have both my parents with me. My sister and I had the measles and ended up in hospital. Mother brought me in a paper doll with changes of clothes. I can still remember the pleasure of the dolls. we lived in a big room, in a big house. I was fascinated by the electric lights and the joy of having an indoor toilet.
