Three evacuees came to us from London - Heather, George, and Walter. This was a completely new experience from them. We would go to gather hazlenuts in the autumn and then we'd take them and dry them. I remember, early one December the nuts went missing, the children were really disappointed as they'd really looked forward to a treat. Both were adimant that it wasn't them who had taken them. They turned up on Christmas day!
Another new experience for them was hanging up a pillowcase by the fireplace on Christmas Eve, where the nuts of course were found on Christmas morning. The boys burst into my parents bedroom shouting 'Uncle, uncle the nuts are back' that was a lovely Christmas, one that we'll never forget.
This story was submitted by Betty in Welsh. This is her own story and it has been translated by the 大象传媒 LPM - Wales.
