Mike Morrissey was 10 when the war started and 15 when it ended. On the 3rd of September 1939 he was in church and the priest announced war he felt excited.
He lived in Crosby near Liverpool, he went to a boarding school which had black cloth over the windows so the Nazis didn鈥檛 have a target. While there he never went hungry. Ships came in groups with supplies with food such as: milk, jam, sugar and eggs were rationed.
His Father died at the battle of Dunkirk, Mike didn鈥檛 want to fight in the war and pleased he didn鈥檛, His Mother served as a personnel officer. Mike unlike his mother didn鈥檛 work during the war.
Mike had a air raid shelter in his garden, his house wasn鈥檛 bombed during the war but houses close by were. After a house had been bombed Mike and other people would collect parts of bombs and trade them. Most of the bombing occurred at night. Mike was evacuated from Bradford to Liverpool to North Wales but it was there own decision. Mike did return to Bradford at the age of 14, he hitch hiked a hundred miles.
