I was born in 1932 and can remember the war and my father being away I think I only saw him five times during the war. He never talked about it after he came home. I was a child but I can remember the night of the eleven hour raid and moving around from different shelters whilst the bombs were going off . the first shelter we were in was a brick one which split and then we were in an Anderson shelter but we had to move on because of a land mine. I can remember running through the streets to a third shelter with my mum.
My school was Gower street school and it was bombed, we had to wait six months for a new school we used to play with shrapnel and I remember a friend finding a hand grenade and us taking to the police station.
