I remember going dancing one night in Bradford, and the sirens went off, and we have to leave the party. We were walking back home, although we were told to cover. Fortunately, we managed to get home safely and hide in the cellar as we always did. That night the bomb fell on Bradford.
There is also another thing that will remain in my memory for ever. My husband as a prisoner of war, was away for 4 years. When D-day came, I hadn't heard from him since Christmas. But it was just a couple of days later when I got the message: "Arrived home, see you soon."...and he simply came home on the bus... I couldn't believe my happiness. My mother told me to go and do shopping and I felt more like flying rather than walking!
