During the war my mother would take me to my grandparents in Wales. We would go there travelling on the train from Chester to North Wales.
Once it happened that we were travelling with many American soldiers, who were going to their camp.
I was looking out of the window when I saw the aircraft flying above the train. It must flew very low as I could see the pilot, and I waved to him. Suddenly he started firing the train with machine guns. It’s not that I was terrified — I just didn’t realise what was happening! The plane was flying all along the train, there and back. As the firing started the soldiers immediately grabbed my mother and myself and threw us under the seats, and covered it with themselves to protect us. We were save there, but some of the soldiers did get shot...
