You just sort of lived it and took everything for granted. There was nothing you could do about it. Everybody was the same. There was no ‘I want this and must have that’, everyone was agreeable. The ration books were supplied one book per person in the family. You would get things like 2oz of butter, bacon, sugar and small portions of whatever you got. You couldn’t go in a shop and ask for a pound of tea or anything because everything was on coupons. Sweets were on ration too, but my daughter had all of them. Also clothes were on ration too at the time. You would save so many coupons until you had enough to get something.
