My father Lawrence Mckeown of the Green Howard鈥檚 was killed in Otta, Oslo in 1940. 8 years ago, a girl was doing a project on the soldiers that were killed in action protecting the villagers that had fled up the mountain as my father was shot.
When I went to visit the cemetery where my father was buried, there was a lady (Randi) lying flowers on my father鈥檚 grave. She was 17 when my father was killed, she had returned to the spot where my father had died after the Germans had fled and buried him. He was later moved to a military grave.
She informed my mother that they had put a stone where my father had died and labeled him a national hero. My mother and I went to visit the stone and his military grave. The hospitality that we received there was out of this world. I have kept in touch with Randi since.
