I remember the day my school in Newbury was bombed. I was at home, as I was ill with tonsillitis. It was in the afternoon, after school had finished, and there were only a few children in after school classes. Quite a lot of these children and one teacher were killed. The bomb also hit the Alms Houses, and the church. They put up a replacement church, like a prefab, which was where my husband I got married.
