I was eight years old in 1941 and living in Dartford, Kent. After being bombed out we moved to a semi-detached house in Chastilian Road, near Dartford Heath.
I used to catch a bus with other children to the Maypole Junior School. One morning while at the bus stop with a teacher, we saw a low-flying plane coming straight towards us. There was the sound of machine-gun firing aimed at us. We ran across the road (Rochester Way)to the porch of a house. The 'plane zoomed past and then the bus came along.
We were disappointed as we wanted to look for bullets.
