The west end of Manchester Cathedral, early 1950s, with Air Raid shelter.
This image shows the Cathedral in the early 1950s, with the entrance to the air-raid shelter still in place (just to the right of the statute of Oliver Cromwell). The Oral History Archive at the Cathedral has one or two interviews with people who remember being evacuated from a service at the Cathedral into that Air Raid Shelter. We would welcome contact from anyone else who remembers being in that shelter.
