Flt Sgt Allen Drinkell from a 1943 newspaper clipping.
The following is a newspaper cutting from Friday 22nd October 1943. It was brought into the Grimsby Studio by his nephew who told how this weekend (15th October 2005) is the 60th anniversary of his award. Allen Drinkell, service no: 993217, flew a total of 55 active missions with 49 and 83 Squadrons at RAF Witton.

鈥極ne of five serving sons of Mr & Mrs Drinkell of Stanley Street, Grimsby, Flight Sgt Allen Drinkell, who is married, has been awarded the D.F.M. in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations.
The official citation states:
鈥淭his airman has completed a very large number of difficult and daring bombing missions, a number of which have been directed against targets in the Rhur ara. He is a first class wireless operator who has always completed his allotted tasks in a cool and able manner, and has displayed enthusiasm for operations at all times. On the ground he has discharged his duties efficiently and has shown a steadfast devotion to duty.鈥
Aged 25, Sgt Drinkell has been on bombing flights for two years and is now engaed on instructional duties.鈥
