Omagh Library is one of the busiest libraries in the Western Education and Library Board area. Situated centrally in the county town of Tyrone, it is part of a complex which houses the headquarters for the area, as well as a Teachers Centre. The current building was opened in 1991 by Rt Hon Peter Brooke MP

Omagh Library plays an important role within the local community. The building has recently been upgrade to accommodate the less able bodied.

Apart from lending stock, the library has 30 PC’s available for public use with free internet use to members. Membership is free and anyone can borrow up to 9 items. We offer free internet taster sessions and support for other computer programmes that are available. Internet use is also free for members

Omagh staff run an Adult and Teenage Reading Group, both of which are very successful. A regular feature is class visits with local Primary Schools. We have seasonal story time and craft events. During the year we run various promotional events such as Healthy Living Week, Silver Surfers and Vital Links(for those with literacy and numeracy difficulties

On an on going basis, we host exhibitions from other organisations and often mount our own. We hold a wealth of information in our local history section, which includes O.S. maps, newspapers on microfilm and staff are available to advise those with local history queries, including tracing your family tree.

We offer a Bookstart and Bookstart Plus service for children under 2 and liaise closely with Surestart, playgroups and Mother & Toddler groups.

We pride ourselves in what the building has to offer. Recently we came second in the Best Kept Public Building competition. Many of our rooms are available for hire at competitive rates
