I have joined this site on behalf of my mother Joan (Nee Anderson) Smith, and father Ronald Albert Smith.
Joan was one of a family of seven and lived in Romney Stthe Pendleton area of Salford. As a young girl she attended Grecian St School. She later became possibly one of the youngest Arp wardens (age 17 yrs) in Salford during the Manchester Blitz of 1940.Her parents were Alice and Simon Anderson, Simon was terminally ill with bowel cancer and bed ridden. She had one sister Winifred and three brothers Norman, Frank and Arthur.
Her home was badly damaged during the blitz and together with her sister and parents was forced to find alternative accomodation. Joan continued to work full time at Metro Vickers in Trafford Park during the day and continued her ARP duties at night.
Joan was married to my father in 1945, Flt Lft Ronald A Smith, a fighter pilot originally from Bath Somerset,Ron trained in Canada and flew with RAF 56 Squadron from (approximately)1942-1946.His postings took him to Egypt, France, and as part of the occupation force to Germany, Ron died in 1990.
