I have signed on as a member of the Peoples War to ensure the details of my father's remarkable escape from occupied France in 1944 are recorded.
He was just 19 years old when his Lancaster was shot down following a raid on the Vaires railway yard just east of Paris. Out of the seven crew four evaded capture and three became prisoners of war.
I suprised him a couple of years ago by presenting him with a copy of his evasion report compiled by MI9 after his return to London. A copy of this doument was held by the National Archive at KEW. They also held a copy of the official crash report so I paid for copies of both documents to be sent to me via e-mail.
My father is 80 years old and is an active member of the Air Crew Association (ACA). He and mum live in Pentre Broughton near Wrexham.
