iam wrighting this as my father was a bevin boy,in1944/1947.it was bad times as my father told me as a yong child.he told me how he would work down in the dark for hours on end. and when he would come back up how the light would hurt his eyes.he had the marks on hes wrists were he would drag hes self along.he told me of the family he stayed with.he was in nothingshire i have been trying to find any thing out were he was down the mines as sadly he passed away 11 years ago now.all i know is that he was first at kirkby from 29/12/44 till 15/1/45.then went to hartshay colliery.i would love to find any photos or here from anyone that may of know him he was allways messing around and was good for a laugh.he loved football and was known as(killer).hes full name was archiebald woodford but iam sure he would of been known as archie,or arther as he did not like hes real name.so please if ther is anyone out there that may help me in some way please get in contact with me .my father may of only been a bevin boy but to me he was a hero as it must take a very brave person to go down the mines not knowing if you will see day light again.i now have a son in the army and i know if my father was a live today he would be very proud of him as we are.thank you for takein the time to read this.
