My father was David Devine who served in the Royal Engineers 930 Port Construction & repair company, from 1940 to 1945. he was born in 1918 in Auchinleck in Ayrshire and worked with Major Ronnie Cowan, a man he greatly respected. He participated in the construction of the mulberry harbours and served in Algeria, belgium, France, holland and Africa. He has many medals for his service, and wrote his memoirs 4 years ago; in these he details some people by their nicknames, viz., Nobby Clark, Doughie Baker, Taffy Jones, Tubby Johnson, Paddy Graham, Snowy White. My dad's own nickname was Jock Devine. Some of the places he spoke of were Tunis, La Gaulette, Naples,Sword Beach, Arromanches.
After his death in August 2004, our family discovered draughtsmans drawings he had completed, of sections of the mulberry harbours, and the Royal Engineers Museum has expressed an interest in these.
It would be wonderful to hear from anyone who served with my dad, or who knew him.
