My name is Ian Lockhart. I was an 8-year old living in Carshalton, south of London and close by Croydon Airport when war broke out. I had a strong interest in the aircraft that were a constant feature in the sky above but a dramatic change occurred following the outbreak of war. We soon had a close view of the Battle of Britain and were uncomfortably close to the action in the Blitz. In 1944, we were back in the front line with the Doodlebugs. After three months evacuation to South Wales, we returned to savour the V2 rockets.
The People鈥檚 War web site provides an opportunity to record some of my many memories of that period.
