I was a direct result of WW2, or the direct result, rather, of my father surviving it ! he returned from Burma in September 45 and I appeared on this earth in June 46. He had joined the TA in 1938 when he realised that conflict was looming. Sent to Belgium with the B.E.F in September 39, he served through Dunkirk, Coastal Defence, the first siege of Tobruk and with both Chindit LRPG expeditions into Burma.
As a young child, his expurgated accounts of his experiences always fascinated me and led to a lifelong interest and study of those times.
The account of his evacuation from Dunkirk is taken from my childhood memories and from tapes he recorded not long prior to his death in February 1998 at the age of 83.
