I was born after the war but my parents and my wife's parents lived through it.
My father was a merchant seaman , on oil tankers, throughout as were two of his brothers; this was mainly across the Atlantic but also to Malta, to the landing beaches in North Africa and Normandy. Astonishingly none of them was hurt. My mother was a teacher and some time munition factory worker until my sister's birth in 1944.
My in-laws lived in Uganda where he was a colonial police inspector. They travelled there and back in wartime.
