I spent all of my childhood in the war years, and was 6 when we moved to Holt Wood in 1941. This is about three miles west of Maidstone, and on the old A20 (London Road). I can remember night raids, V1's and V2's and the constant stream of military convoys on the A20.
When the war ended there was a lot of ex-government equipment around, which could be bought for pocket money and I took up radio contruction as a hobby.
This led me on to a life as a TV engineer, and taught me many practical skills. Today I am 70, live at Haughley in Suffolk, and enjoy writing as a hobby. I am seeking more information on my father John Ambrose Corbett, who worked as a translator at the Enigma Decoding Centre at Bletchley Park. His contibution to the war effort had remained a secret for the required thirty years, and I was only told in 1983.
