I was 13 when WW2 started and 15 when Russians deported me and my parents to Barnaul, Siberia. The year was 1941. When Germans attacked Russia, (we were deported hours before Germans entered Brest Litevsk) on the basis of the agreement between Polish Government-in-Exile in London and the Soviet Government, we were given "amnesty" and in August 1942 were allowed to leave Russia, through Caspian Sea to Persia. There I joined Polish Army and was assigned to the 12 Podolski Lancers Regiment. With my regiment I went through Iraq, Palestine, Egypt and actively participated in the Italian campaign. Due to the war my middle education was shattered. For my 10 grade exam I went directly from our combat positions in Italian mountains, in knee-deep snow (roads and bridges were blown up). After the war I studied at Italian Polytechnic in Turin, French University in Beirut, Lebanon, at University of London, England and finally at Newark College of Engineering, Newark, USA, where I graduated in BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering. I worked in my profession for 42 years. I am retired now and reside in USA.
