as a 17 year old lad knowing that i would have to do service with the arned forces i did not fancy going into the army so was a toss up between navy or airforce but i would wait and see but in early 1945 i was told that now every one called up were going into the army and the only way to pick where you wanted to go was to volunteer so i volunteered for the navy so in june 45 thats where i went down to HMS glendower
and so went on to serve till de-mob march 48
