My name is Liz and I am the daughter of Mary and Jack Edworthy. Mary (nee Huxham) worked as a bus conductress in Exeter in the war.She told the family often about the night she slept through the Exeter blitz. I have posted this on the People's War site.
My father, Jack was in the Royal Artillery and volunteered to go to Burma with the Chindits. He saw action behind Jaapanese lines in the jungle. He also spent time in India and seems to have "enjoyed" his time in that country.
My mother's brother, Herbert (known as Jack) was a flight sergeant in the RAF, a rear-gunner, and was killed in January 1941. Another brother, Tom, was also in the RAF serving in this country and in India. One sister, Barbara, worked in a munitions factory in Gloucester and another sister, Frances, was in the WRNS. My mother's youngest brother, Hector, was then a pupil at QES Crediton.
One of my father's brothers, Reg, was in the Eighth Army in Egypt.
