Anthony Pinkham was prevailed upon by his family to write his memoirs of his war time experiences and he subsequently titled them "A Rough Rider'S Story 1937 - 1946 ". This is an extract of the days leading up to and including his evacuation from the beaches at St. Valery en Caux on 6th June 1940. In 1992, he and his wife went back to the beach at St. Valery and found the cave he sheltered in, albeit a very much larger one after so many years of erosion by the sea. Nevertheless, it was still identifiable.
As the title of his memoirs suggest, he continued to serve throughout the war, in North Africa and ,finally, in Italy where, by now a Captain, he was awarded the MC for his action at Sorrivoli.
