I served as an officer with the British armoured troops. I went to Normandy with the 2nd Northamtonshire Yeomanry. This regiment was disbanded at the end of the Normandy fighting and I was transferred to the 1st RTR, where I remained until the end of the fighting, having been promoted to the rank of Captain in command of the reconnaissance troop. After this, I was transferred to 4th Armoured Brigade headquarters where I served as Staff Captain "A" until I was demobilised. I was mentioned in despatches after the campaign in Holland.
