I am 67 years old. I lived in the small market town of Bishop Auckland in the north east of England for 20 years and was 3 when the war commenced. I now live in Durham City. My view of the war is therefore set in childhood memories although the distress caused to older family members and friends did not pass me by - A 19 year old relative went down on the Royal Oak in Scapa Flow off Orkney. Bishop Auckland saw little damage, usually just offloading before returning to Germany although I was still affected by fear. Our nearest incendiary device went through a garage roof two doors away. A neighbour ran out in his pyjamas armed with a dustbin lid to rescue the situation!

I'm interested in all aspects of the war.
