I have just come on to this website with the help of Radio Wiltshire. I hope as the days go by to contribute memories of World War 2. No prizes for guessing my age when I say should have started school the day after war broke out - but have since learned that because of the emergency the start of the school term in September 1939 was delayed for two weeks. So for me the war is remembered as a small boy at infants school and then at junior school which I left in June 1945 - after VE Day and just before VJ Day. It was only as the war went on that children of my age really realized the dangers. For instance when during the Battle of Britain an emply bullet case fell on the roof as I played nearby I didn't know the vapour trails overhead were our boys fighting the Germans. My memories will hopefully continue from the Battle of Britain to the end of the war when we entertained German prisoners-of-war who came to us in their time allowed out of camp.
