Born at the end of 1935, I was just 4 years old when the UK entered the war.
I have two vivid memories of the blitz of Plymouth. The chronology of these two events escapes me; maybe some WW2 historian with knowledge of happenings at the locations I mention might be able to put a time-stamp on them for me. The locations are also somewhat vague (but both in the Devonport area), for which I can only apologise; maybe one day I will return to Plymouth & research these events properly. I would like to know the time & exact place, I must admit.
My father, a Royal Marine, was on board ship somewhere overseas at this time. My mother (Beatrice Ada Hendy, nee Morton), baby brother (Michael) & I seemed to be in a different house almost every week; maybe it was even a daily change in those dreadful times; I don鈥檛 know.
The two memories are entitled "A Very Close Call" and "An Even Closer Call", and are shown below.
