hello everyone, frank jackson was my grandfather, who served aboard hms copra.i have his full service record with a brief diary as well.
he was at sea from 9-6-41 to 14-8-41 on the ganges, on the pembroke from 15-8-41 to 30-8-41, on the nutbury? from 31-8-41 to 19-9-41, on the pembroke from 20-9-41 to 20-9-41, on the quebec from 20-9-41 to 31-8-43,on the copra from 1-9-43 to 22-1-46 at which point he was released.his rank at his time of release was petty officer.
i hope you can follow these dates.
frank was born on 29-9-1908 and lived in nottingham.he was 5 foot 5 inches tall, and had a very jolly nature.unfortunately he died about 15 years ago, before i developed my interest in the second world war.
reading his diary, isee that he spent most of his time at sea in and around the mediteranean, was blown up a couple of times whilst piloting landing craft, had the prime minister winston churchill spend a night on board ship, and judging by his writing went from relaxed to worried on regular occasions
