I was born in 1922 at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria; my Father worked at the Barrow-in-Furness shipyard.
In the 30's, during the deep depression, he came to Derby with his five children, three boys and two girls.
I'm married with a daughter (Jane) and two grandchildren, Mark and Emma. We are members of the Methodist Church and have been so for over 60 years.
I was conscripted in 1942 and was a cook in the 220 Field Company, Royal Engineers - 56th Division, Black Caps (named after Dick Wittington;s cat!).
We were with the Americal 5th Army in Italy.
