Henry G (George) Highmore
The synopsis for Young Henry鈥檚 War describes my early years, from age 10 to age 17, after which I joined the Royal Air Force as a Boy Entrant in 1947.
I retired from the RAF in 1982 in the rank of Squadron Leader having served for 34 adult years.
A two-year period helping my wife Pam with her ladies fashion business in Rutland and in Stamford, Lincolnshire, was followed by my appointment as Chief Engineering Manager at RAF Shawbury, responsible for the engineering support for that military base.
Full retirement in 1995 saw my interest in writing re-kindled and I started with short stories and non-fiction items for the local magazine market and some anecdotal pieces for military publications. I have recently assembled a collection of my short stories entitled A Short Book of Small Stories.
I have yet to be seriously published.
Young Henry鈥檚 War was written between my ventures into the short story world and was completed in 2000. It has suffered a number of revisions and a considerable tightening up process since that date.
I have ventured into long fiction with two pieces uncompleted.
My wife, Pam, and I married in 1951. We have two daughters. Julie Highmore, our eldest, is currently writing for Hodder Review and is embarking on her fourth novel and Carol Pearce is a special needs teacher. We have five wonderful grandchildren ranging in age between 20 and 27 years.
Pam and I have recently become Great Grand parents with the arrival of Rose Okeke, born to Sophie and Chuk our Grand daughter and Grandson-in-law.
I play golf badly, garden well and, as a mechanical engineer, have an ingenuity with gadgets. Always adventurous, I recently enjoyed filming two TV quiz shows.
