Devizes Peace Group was formed in 2003, following Britain鈥檚 entry into the Iraq war.
The volume of public outrage and disgust at this criminal act inspired many of us to try to find another way.
Our purpose is not just to challenge the use of war, but to learn about, inform and encourage the development of non-violent methods of conflict resolution.
This process starts with our immediate relationships and ourselves and expands worldwide.
There will always be conflicts, but it is not true that they will inevitably degenerate into war and violence.
Just as the main activity of war is killing, the essential tool non-violent conflict resolution is dialogue.
There have been many hundreds of conflicts resolved non-violently which otherwise would have resulted in war.
This is a little known fact.
It is also scarcely known that since WWI most victims of war have been civilians.
We believe that most young men fought and died in WWII in the belief and hope that an end could be brought to all wars. We believe that the best way to honour them is to work to bring an end to all war.
We believe that conflict can be successfully tackled in non-violent ways. We think that the best way to honour the brave is to pursue that path.
We are collecting stories of other kinds of experiences of the war. Particularly conscientious objection, also evacuation and the caring services.
